Cobb County Commission Chairman Michael Boyce said that the county will not be rolling back the millage rate, which in 2016 was 28.75.

He said on his weekly CobbTV update,

I want to be very up-front here with the voters and the people in Cobb.  Even though the assessments on properties have gone up, we simply cannot roll back the millage rate to offset that.  We have some significant bills that have to be paid.  Quality is not cheap.  I think everybody appreciates the fact that when you dial 911, a policeman shows up at your door.  When you turn your water faucet on here, water comes out.  There are a lot of things that happen in this county that reflect the quality of service we provide, and I just want to emphasize that those services don’t come cheaply. If we want to keep quality people in this county who work here, we have to pay them a quality wage.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will host three public hearings on the 2017 millage rate in their board room, located on the second floor of 100 Cherokee St., Marietta. The hearings will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 11;  6 p.m. Tuesday, July 11; and 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25.

The millage rate will be adopted on the evening of the last public hearing, and the commissioners will also ratify the Board of Education’s 2017 millage rate.
