Michael Boyce sworn in as new chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners

Michael Boyce was sworn is as the new chairman of the Cobb County board of commissioners this afternoon in a packed auditorium at the Cobb civic center.  He won the July Republican primary runoff against incumbent chairman Tim Lee, and had no opposition in the November general election.

Michael Murphy gave the welcoming remarks and introductions. The ceremony included a presentation of colors by the Cobb County police honor guard.  Rev. Henry Holley, Master Sgt. USMC (Ret.), and a veteran of World War II led the pledge of allegiance.  The Kingsmen vocal ensemble of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church sang the national anthem, followed by “God Bless America”. Opening and closing invocations were delivered by Rev. Jody Ray, and Rev. Nelson Price.

Boyce, accompanied by his wife Judy, took the oath of office, administered by Cobb County state court judge Marsha Lake.  After he was sworn in, Boyce said,

As the leader of this government, I seek to lead a board that achieves the trust of all the people, through our openness, transparency, and most importantly, accountability.  A government that treats all people with respect, dignity, and courtesy  … I will strive with every bone in my body, through our efforts as public servants,  to provide the public services in an atmosphere that unleashes the human spirit and creativity that’s in all of us, and makes us the choice destination for people to safely work, live, recreate, and pursue their dream.

Boyce has called a special work session of the board of commissioners for Wednesday Jan. 4 to discuss his goals and objectives with the board.
