Are you a fan of comic books?  Come on now, you can admit it.  Call them graphic novels if it makes you feel better.  I, for one, have been reading comics and graphic novels since the mid-1950s, in addition to watching TV and feature film treatments of the genre.  I made the transition from Superman and Archie in the 1950s to Marvel Comics in the 1960s, and on to the dark graphic novels of Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman.

So I was excited to discover recently that the Cobb County Public Library offers its patrons thousands of comics and graphic novels online.  There is something for the taste of nearly every fan, including light-hearted fare like Angry Birds, Star Trek for the sci-fi fans, Naruto for enthusiasts of Japanese manga, and violent and gory comics from publishers like Dark Horse and BOOM! Studios.

To get access to the collection, visit http://cobbcat.org.  If you haven’t set up an online account you’ll need to do so using the number on your library card.  Select “eBooks & eAudiobooks”, then select ComicsPlus.  You’ll be required to set up a separate account to get access to the comics, but once you do you’re on your way, and you can browse the collection by your age range, the publisher, or genre.

Now I think I’ll log onto CobbCat and browse issues of the old comic “Magnus, Robot Fighter.”  For research.  Honest.
