Arson suspect bound over for trial in auto fire at Marietta motel

Doorway to magistrate court, the court which conducts eviction hearings

Christopher Shockley, 35, was bound over to Cobb Superior Court for trial on a charge of arson, suspected of setting fire to the vehicle of a woman described in court as his girlfriend on March 17, in the parking lot of a motel on Delk Road in Marietta.  Cobb Magistrate Court Judge Gerald Moore found probable cause for the charge after hearing testimony on Friday from Marietta fire department investigator, Lt. Cliff Bolen.

Bolen testified at Shockley’s probable cause hearing that he had viewed the motel security video, and interviewed the suspect.  Bolen stated that the video showed Shockley entering and leaving the vehicle, liquid running from the vehicle, and the vehicle bursting into flames.  The suspect told Bolen that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident and could not remember what happened.

Bolen said the vehicle, a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country, was gutted in the blaze.

Judge Moore denied Shockley bond, citing his recent record of arrests on suspicion of serious crimes.
