Motorcycle theft suspect to stand trial

Doorway to magistrate court, the court which conducts eviction hearings

One of the suspects in an alleged motorcycle theft that led to the injury of a police officer was bound over to Cobb County Superior Court for trial.  Christian Lee Scott, 22 of Jackson, Georgia, was in the magistrate courtroom of Judge Kellie Hill Friday, charged with possession of a controlled substance, theft by taking property valued at over $1500, trafficking methamphetamine, obstruction or hindering law enforcement, marijuana possession, and the possession of tools for the commission of a crime.  Judge Hill found probable cause and bound the suspect over on all charges.

Officer Peter Waldorf of the Cobb County Police Department‘s Precinct 3 testified that he received a call at the beginning of his shift on July 30 that a motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot of the Extended Stay motel on Interstate North Parkway, and loaded into a white pickup truck.  The motorcycle had a tracking device, and police were able to locate the suspects at Cobb Parkway and South Marietta Parkway.  The Marietta Police Department was called in since it was in their jurisdiction.  The three passengers of the pickup truck fled on foot.

Scott, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was captured by the Marietta Police Department.  Gary Haney, the driver, was caught by Officer Gallimore of the Cobb County Police Department.  A third suspect was not apprehended.

Upon searching the vehicle, Cobb police found methamphetamine in a book bag and more methamphetamine and other drugs in several packages in the truck. They also found bolt cutters.

After finding probable cause to send Scott to trial, Hill denied him bond.  She said that several instances in which Scott failed to appear in court for past crimes indicated he was at high risk of failing to appear again.

This incident resulted in the injury of a police officer who was involved in stopping traffic during the attempt to capture the fleeing suspect.
