Aviation Park adds aviation-themed greenspace to the Town Center community

Aviation Park, located on the corner of Barrett Lakes and Cobb Place boulevards, is now completed and open to the public.  The park is in Kennesaw next to the end of the Cobb County International Airport. The three-acre park is a project of the Town Center Community Improvement District and The Town Center Community Alliance. It includes an observation area to watch planes land, a playground, and restrooms. It also features access to Noonday Creek Trail, a Zagster Bikeshare station, and a pavilion.

The park was funded by the TCCID and TCCA, and is maintained by Cobb County Parks and Recreation.  TCCID and TCCA will provide assistance with ongoing maintenance and improvements.

The park is completed roughly one year after the groundbreaking ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony for the park took place May of last year, and the ceremony included officials from the TCCID, leaders of other local community organizations, District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell and Michael Boyce, chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

At last year’s groundbreaking, Tracy Rathbone, executive director of the Town Center CID, told the Courier, “There’s a rich history of aviation in the community, and we really wanted to highlight that. We always knew we wanted some green space along the [Noonday Creek] trail at this location.”

The fact sheet for the new park on the TCCID website states:

Located at the corner of Cobb Place Boulevard and Barrett Lakes Boulevard by the Cobb County
International Airport, the large open greenspace is a perfect setting for passive recreation and
a gathering space in the Town Center CID. The park was funded by the Town Center CID and
the Town Center Community Alliance and is owned and maintained by Cobb County. The park
is the perfect setting for passive recreation and a gathering space in the Town Center CID. The
vision entailed the creation of an area to educate the community on the history of aviation in
Cobb County, as well as engage visitors in a beautiful open environment. The concept lent itself
to creating a playground, shade structures and needed restrooms along the Noonday Creek
Trail. Through County/CID collaboration, the initial vision for Aviation Park has become a reality.

The address of the park is 2659 Barrett Lakes Boulevard, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144.
