The theme for the National Juried Exhibition: Sanctuary
According to the press release for the exhibition and awards ceremony, “Sanctuary can mean many things to different people. It might be a home…a place of refuge and protection, or the sense of security that a child feels when held in its mother’s arms. A person may find sanctuary in his temple or church, or it may be found in nature among vast pine forests or rolling meadows filled with wildflowers. Others may find sanctuary within their own heart and imagination. In this exhibition, we intend to explore the meaning and perception of ‘sanctuary’ as it pertains to the individual artist, either in the literal sense or from a deeper, more metaphorical perspective.”
Juror Charles Young Walls
The NJE is judged by an artist or art instructor with extensive experience in the field. This year’s juror is the award-winning, Atlanta-based artist Charles Young Walls.
According to the press release, “Walls completed a BFA from Arizona State University and studied in New York City at the National Academy of Design and The Art Students League. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the American Impressionist Society and is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America. He is a recipient of the Presidents’ Award of Excellence at the 2015 Oil Painters of America National Exhibition, the Gold Medal recipient at the 2015 OPA Salon Exhibition and was awarded the John August Dietrich Memorial Figurative Award of Excellence at the 2013 OPA National Exhibition.”
