Officer Chuck McPhilamy of the Marietta Police Department reported in a public information release that cooperation between a sheriff’s office in Virginia and Marietta police led to the quick apprehension of a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide on Delk Road.

According to investigators, on Wednesday, June 21, a violent confrontation at a hotel room in Marietta, Georgia, resulted in the stabbing death of a 37-year-old man.
After committing the crime, the alleged assailant took a vehicle which had been loaned to the victim and fled the state.
The owners of the vehicle activated its GPS system and alerted the Virginia authorities. Deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Meanwhile, the body of the victim was discovered in his hotel room by workers who called the police.
Marietta police detectives responded to the scene and were later contacted by deputies in Virginia who reported they had the suspect in custody.
After collecting evidence, they secured a warrant charging the suspect with felony murder, theft by taking and felony aggravated assault.
The suspect is currently in custody in the Caroline County jail awaiting extradition to Cobb County, Georgia.
