Marietta announces vacancy on its Civil Service Board

The City of Marietta posted the following notice to its website about a vacancy on the city’s Civil Service Board:

The Fire and Police civil service employees of the City of Marietta, Georgia, will elect one (1) person to fill Post 2 on the Marietta Civil Service Board, for a three (3) year term. The Civil Service Board is an appeals board that hears issues related to the civil service employees. The Board is made up of five (5) members, two (2) of which are elected by civil service employees. The election will be held for three days on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, October 8, 9 & 10, 2024, from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

The eligibility requirements to be a member of the Marietta Civil Service Board are: (1) cannot hold any elected governmental position or be employed by a Municipal or County Government; (2) cannot be less than 25 years of age; (3) must be a bonafide resident and qualified voter of said city; (4) cannot have an immediate family member serving in an elected position with said city or have an immediate family member who is currently employed by a city department or a department properly designated as under the Civil Service Board’s jurisdiction, as set forth in Section 4.14 of the Marietta City Code of Ordinances.

The filing notice of candidacy will be received by the Marietta City Clerk’s Office for two weeks, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM beginning Monday, September 9, 2024, and ending Friday, September 20, 2024, at 205 Lawrence Street, 4th Floor, Marietta, Georgia. Each candidate must also provide an application, biographical sketch and the reason why the candidate feels he or she should be elected to the Civil Service Board.
