The Center for Family Resources distributed the following announcement asking the community to help reach the goal of supporting 1,000 families in its Thanks for Giving program:
Canned vegetables, yams, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, dried beans—these are just a few of the items on the Thanks for Giving food drive list this year. They may seem like basic staples, but for families in Cobb County who struggle with food insecurity, providing enough food for a Thanksgiving meal, as well as enough food to cover the holiday week, ensures that children who are reliant on free or reduced school lunch programs have access to nourishment while on school break.
To make this happen, The Center for Family Resources (CFR) is asking the community to help reach a goal of supporting 1,000 families through the 38th annual Thanks for Giving program. The CFR is a not-for-profit agency that serves Cobb County families experiencing homelessness and empowers them with tools to become self-sufficient.
The program’s presenting sponsors for 2024 are Genuine Parts Company and Lockheed Martin and its co-chairs are Janice Reardon and Samantha Cole. Community members are asked to participate by becoming an Event Sponsor, hosting a Thanks for Giving food drive or making a charitable donation. Local schools can also support The CFR’s efforts by hosting a food drive.
This year, The CFR is expanding its relationship with Cobb Schools Foundation, Cobb County School District (CCSD) and City of Marietta Schools to more directly reach families in each district who are experiencing food insecurity.
Donated items will be distributed to families the week before Thanksgiving break. For more information on how you can get involved, please visit https://thecfr.org/t4g.
The Center for Family Resources’ mission is to reduce childhood homelessness by serving and empowering families through prevention, crisis intervention, housing support, education, and compassionate care management. For more information, visit TheCFR.org.
