Cobb County has again been awarded a AAA credit rating by the nation’s top three credit rating agencies. This is the 27th year in a row Cobb has achieved this goal, and only three counties in Georgia were awarded AAA by all three agencies: Fitch, S&P, and Moody’s.
According to the news release on the county website:
This prestigious rating benefits Cobb County residents by lowering the county’s borrowing costs, attracting investments, and offering greater financial flexibility in emergencies or other unusual circumstances.
“The rating reflects our view of Cobb County’s consistent positive financial performance and maintenance of robust reserve levels,” S&P’s report stated. “These are supported by well-integrated financial management practices and a robust economy. Economic growth continues, driven by ongoing business investments, new construction, and population spillover from Atlanta.”
“This 27-year milestone of achieving a AAA credit rating is a testament to Cobb County’s unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility and prudent financial management,” said Chairwoman Lisa Cupid in the news releae. “Our residents can take pride in knowing that our sound financial practices not only save them money but also demonstrate our county’s ability to thrive and grow for generations to come.”
According to the news release:
Cobb County’s Chief Financial Officer Bill Volckmann, Deputy CFO Buddy Tesar, Chairwoman Lisa Cupid, and County Manager Dr. Jackie McMorris traveled earlier this year to meet with representatives from the three main rating agencies.
About Cobb County
Cobb County is the third most populous county in Georgia, smaller only than Fulton and Gwinnett counties.
Early History
The county was established in 1832, is named after Thomas Willis Cobb, a U.S. Congressman, Senator, and Supreme Court judge. Cobb was formed from a portion of Cherokee County.
Marietta, the county seat, was incorporated in 1834, becoming a vital center for trade and governance.
Government Structure
The governance of Cobb County is anchored by the Board of Commissioners, consisting of a Chairman and four Commissioners. Each member is elected—the Chairwoman at large and the Commissioners from their respective districts. This body holds the dual role of enacting county policies and overseeing the administration of county services. The Chairwoman also has specific duties, such as presiding over board meetings and acting as the official county spokesperson.
