SCRL Casts Spells of Enrichment and Entertainment for October

In addition to the continued show of support for banned books, with the Banned Book Bookmarks program ending October 11, South Cobb Regional Library has planned events for a mix of learning, fun, and fright throughout the month. The month’s schedule leads up to Halloween which, for 2024, falls on a Thursday—a school day.

A couple of the events which may be of interest to young-Dr. Frankensteins and readers in general are the Kerol Bot Classes and the Libby workshop. The Kerol Bot Classes, for children ages 10-13, is a four-session coding curriculum; and the Learning Libby workshop will introduce the Cobb County Public Library’s app. With the Libby app, checking out that horror eBook (and other resources) will be a cinch. Both of these learning events require registration.

On the fun side, the Pumpkin Painting and the Find Bigfoot: Teen Escape Room events are sure to conjure the spirit of Halloween.

Lastly, South Cobb Regional Library will offer the macabre entertainment of The Craft for its Monthly Movie Matinee and a death-talk session with a Forensic 101 workshop. (The movie’s rating is arguably incorrect since its director is on record as having made the film for a PG-13 audience, but with a rated R status, along with the forensic workshop, invite adults 18+.)

  • October 02, Karel Bot Classes, every Wednesday at 5PM (10/02, 09, 16, and 23rd)
  • October 04, Monthly Movie Matinee, Friday at 3 PM
  • October 09, Forensic 101, Wednesday at 6PM
  • October 18, Pumpkin Painting, Friday at 4PM
  • October 24, Learning Libby, Thursday at 3PM
  • October 29, Find Bigfoot: Teen Escape Room, Tuesday at 5PM
