A truck struck a pedestrian this morning at the entrance of the Sedona Falls apartment complex near Terrell Mill Road in Precinct Four, resulting in serious injuries to the pedestrian.

According to a public information release from Officer Sydney Melton of the Cobb County Police Department, the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating the accident.

The public information release describes the accident as follows:

Per investigators, a pedestrian was walking west on the northern sidewalk of Terrell Mill Road. The pedestrian was crossing the entrance to the apartment complex in a crosswalk. A blue 2016 Mack MRU600 garbage truck, owned by American Disposal Services, was traveling east on Terrell Mill Road. The Mack truck made a left turn into the apartment complex and collided with the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was identified as 35-year-old Diana A. Ramone of Marietta. She was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Mack was identified as 45-year-old Charles L. Strong of Lithia Springs. He was not injured.

The STEP Unit

The STEP Unit, which investigates serious or fatal traffic crashes, is one of the Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations units, and is described on the web page of the Cobb County Police Department as follows:

“The Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit is responsible for investigating all fatal traffic crashes, enforcement of traffic laws in those areas which analysis indicates an elevated amount of crashes. They are also responsible for the administration and execution of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program. They also take part in special security details, and investigate crashes involving Department vehicles when requested.”
