With elementary, middle, and high school kids returning to classrooms on August 3rd, library schedules generally “return to normal”, to which the first month of the school year is a period of transition, from the summer school break. However, at West Cobb Regional Library, preschoolers are not to be left out during this phase.
Throughout the month of August, from 10:30 AM to noon on Wednesdays, The Basics Storytime (with Cobb Collaborative) offers children ages two to five simple, fun practicums—age-appropriate learning environments that will prepare them for first grade and beyond. The Basics of Storytime is a science-backed curriculum which teaches five developmental principles:
- Love maximization and stress management (to foster emotional and social development)
- Communicative interaction through talking, singing, and pointing (to build strong language skills)
- Analysis and reasoning through counting, grouping, and comparing (to nurture arithmetic and problem-solving abilities).
- Exploration through movement and play (to develop physical skills and creativity)
- Reading and discussing stories (for cognitive and language growth, which builds confidence and comprehension.)
More importantly though, the Basics Storytime will enable the parent-child relationship, which will help parents to raise better human beings.
(The Basics Storytime will also be held weekly in August, every Tuesday at 10:30 AM, at the Charles D. Switzer Library.)
Of course, West Cobb Regional Library hasn’t forgotten about school-age kids completely, or even adults for that matter. The library will host Dungeons and Dragons One Shot Monday (5:30 PM to 7:30 on August 10th and 24th); D&D One Shot Wednesday (same time on August 12th); D&D One Shot Saturday (11:00 AM to 1:00 on August 22nd), all for twelve-year-olds and up; and regular Dungeons and Dragons for adults on Saturdays, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 on August 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.
