If one isn’t familiar with The Georgia Room, then it is a special area within the hub of the Cobb County Public Library System’s Charles D. Switzer Library. A repository of genealogical and historical records established in 1970, this special room archives the founders and history of Cobb County, holds collections for research and education, and preserves and digitizes both renowned and familial materials. The Georgia Room often contributes to the library’s events schedule.
For the month of August, The Georgia Room has scheduled a handful of events to prelude the coming fall. Monday, August 3rd at 6:00 PM, the Georgia Room’s Summer True Crime Series begins a weekly tour into Georgia’s shadowy past, exploring the state’s most infamous crimes and the resilience of affected communities. In addition, the Georgia Room’s Cold Case Club will elevate the book club with registered participants sleuthing The Disappearance of Mary Shotwell Little (from Lenox Square in 1965). The debrief of this mystery will be on Tuesday, August 25th at 6:00 PM. (Register to receive documented evidence for this case here.)
In between the studies in mystery, The Georgia Room offers a creative outlet with its Feeling Peachy Cross Stitch program, occurring Wednesday, August 19th at 5:30 PM.
The events of the Georgia Room are a great lead up to Switzer’s Write On program, with a Creative Writing Club (also on Wednesday, August 19th at 6:00, occurring monthly) and its Summer Critique session(on Wednesday, August 26th at 6:00).
For those interested in writing Southern Gothic, spending summer at Switzer, with The Georgia Room is sure to provide the resources and material to develop a fictional story into the fall season.
