Georgia gas prices continued to fall this week, giving drivers some relief at the pump as the statewide average dropped to $3.76 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.
The average is 11 cents lower than a week ago, according to AAA, although Georgia drivers are still paying 20 cents more per gallon than a month ago and 85 cents more than at the same time last year.
At the current average, filling a standard 15-gallon tank costs about $56.40.
“Drivers are seeing some relief at the pump as earlier declines in crude oil prices filter through the market,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, ongoing uncertainty surrounding global oil supplies could shift the trend and put upward pressure on gas prices in the coming weeks.”
What about Cobb County prices?
The average price for a gallon of unleaded in Cobb County this morning was just under $3.84, about eight cents more than the statewide average.
EV charging rates
EV charging rates this morning were hovering around 42 cents per kilowatt hour at commercial DC fast charging stations, both nationally and in Georgia.
Home charging is much cheaper, particularly during overnight off-peak hours. Check your local utility provider for rates.
National gas price falls to $4.01
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 8 cents over the past week to $4.01.
AAA attributed the decline to lower crude oil prices and softer gasoline demand. Summer travel is also winding down as students return to school, reducing the number of road trips and contributing to a seasonal drop in demand.
The national average remains above Georgia’s price. A week ago, the national average was $4.09, compared with Georgia’s $3.87 average at the time.
Where gas is cheapest and most expensive in Georgia
Atlanta had the highest average gas price among Georgia metro markets at $3.83 per gallon, followed by Macon at $3.81 and Gainesville at $3.79.
The state’s least expensive metro market was Catoosa-Dade-Walker at $3.51 per gallon. Albany followed at $3.57, while Augusta-Aiken averaged $3.59.

Georgia’s $3.76 statewide average compares with $3.77 the previous day, $3.87 a week ago, $3.56 a month ago and $2.91 a year ago.
The state’s record high for regular gasoline is $4.49 per gallon, set June 15, 2022.
Nationally, the $4.01 average compares with $4.02 the previous day, $4.09 a week ago, $3.84 a month ago and $3.14 a year ago. The national record high is $5.01 per gallon, set June 14, 2022.
