The Kiwanis Club of Marietta will bring back its 9/11 Field of Flags Memorial this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the September, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Each of the flags planted at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will honor someone who died the day of the aerial attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the hijacking of another plane which crashed in Pennsylvania-2,977 in all.
An opening Flag Parade is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 29, ending at the battlefield Park with participants helping to install flags. The public’s invited to take part in the event by gathering beginning at 9 a.m. at Grace Community Church, 770 Kennesaw Avenue.
The Sept. 11 memorial service will begin at 7:55 a.m. at the park, 900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive, and will include a reading of the victims’ names.
