SWITZER EVENTS TRANSITION NATURALLY FOR FALL

Weathering August’s blazing temps with a host of events, Switzer Library continues a robust schedule for September, with a few events ideal for the month’s transition to fall.

On Wednesday afternoon, September 2nd, the Naturalist Club of Cobb Water Education will present Riparian Hardwood Plants and Habitat. In teaching the identification of trees and shrubs that shade streams as a healthy ecosystem, attendees will also learn how to create their own herbarium through plant pressing.

At the end of the month, the Naturalist Club will meet again on September 30th at 4:30 PM—a week after the official start of the fall season—to continue its naturalist education with Succession and Habitat Management. This presentation will explore different plants at different stages of a developing ecosystem, beyond a riparian, such as a field yielding to a forest.

In between these events are Thursdays 4:30 meeting of the Nature Club, for children 5 and up to learn about gardens and gardening; Gardener’s Night Out’s Divide & Conquer: Perennial Plant Division on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30 PM, which will offer free plants to take home; and ushering in the fall season, perhaps in alignment with the seasonal county festivals, such as the North Georgia State Fair starting September 24th, the library will present for its Sensory-Friendly Family Movie on Saturday 26th at 11:00 AM, Charlotte’s Web.

The September reading selections of clubs at Switzer Library are as follows:

  • Escape to the Past, Friday, September 11th at 11:00 AM

(The White Ship: Conquest, Anarchy, and the Wrecking of Henry I’s Dream by Charles Spencer)

  • Classics Book Club, Wednesday, September 16th at 1:00 PM

(Of Human Bondage by Somerset Maugham)

  • Graphic Novel Book Club, Monday, September 21st at 6:00 PM

(Theme: Nonfiction – Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi;

Maus: A Survivor’s Tale by Art Spiegelman;

March by John Lewis)

  • Let’s Talk, Thursday, September 24th at 1:00 PM

(Cherokee Rose by Tiya Miles)

Please be advised that the library shall close on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day.
