The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation distributed the following announcement:
The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation, in partnership with the city of Smyrna, the Smyrna Fire Department and the Smyrna Police Department, will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a community ceremony honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, volunteers will begin installing the Flags of Remembrance adjacent to Smyrna City Hall. The display will remain in place through Sunday, Sept. 13, providing the community an opportunity to visit, remember and reflect.
On the morning of Friday, Sept. 11, Smyrna will hold a solemn memorial ceremony recognizing the lives lost on 9/11 and honoring the enduring commitment of Smyrna’s public safety community to service, sacrifice and the protection of others.
Following the ceremony, first responders and participating personnel will take part in the 9/11 Memorial Run, continuing the tradition of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

4:30 p.m. — Local Scouts and volunteers will use hundreds of American flags to create a replica of the Twin Towers as part of the “Flags of Remembrance” tribute.

9:05 a.m. — 9/11 Memorial Run begins
