The Cobb County Courier has a policy of withholding the names of survivors involved in traffic incidents that are still under investigation
County police are investigating a serious injury collision that happened Monday afternoon on Hickory Grove Road at Insdale Road in the Kennesaw area.
Police say a 2012 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Hickory Grove Road at Insdale Drive with a 41-year-old man at the wheel and two juvenile passengers At the same time a 2025 Toyota Camry was headed westbound near Insdale. The Ford for some reason crossed over to the westbound lane and hit the left side of the Toyota. It then continued eastbound and hit a 2019 Dodge Durango with a 17-year-old male driver.
The driver of the Ford went to the hospital with serious injuries. His juvenile passengers complained of injury but weren’t treated at the scene. The Durango driver had visible injuries but refused treatment at the scene. The 60-year-old woman operating the Toyota wasn’t hurt.

The STEP Unit
The STEP Unit, which investigates serious or fatal traffic crashes, is one of the Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations units, and is described on the web page of the Cobb County Police Department as follows:
“The Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit is responsible for investigating all fatal traffic crashes, enforcement of traffic laws in those areas which analysis indicates an elevated amount of crashes.
“They are also responsible for the administration and execution of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program.
“They also take part in special security details, and investigate crashes involving Department vehicles when requested.”
The STEP Unit is commanded by Lieutenant Lane Johnson.
