During an otherwise short agenda at the Acworth Board of Aldermen regular meeting Thursday, the board issued the following proclamation in honor of United States Air Force Day:
A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING UNITED STATES AIR FORCE DAY
WHEREAS, Army Air Forces Day was first recognized on Aug. 1, 1947, by President Harry S. Truman in recognition of the personnel of the victorious Army Air Forces and all those who developed and maintained our nation’s air strength; and
WHEREAS, the United States Air Force was established as a separate branch of the military on Sept. 18, 1947, under the National Security Act of 1947; and
WHEREAS, underlying the Air Force Day celebration was the need to increase both official and public awareness of the priority and importance of air forces in any system of national security, according to President Truman; and
WHEREAS, the United States Air Force is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and is the world’s largest and one of its most technologically advanced air forces; and
WHEREAS, the current mission of the United States Air Force is to fly, fight and win — airpower anytime, anywhere; and
WHEREAS, the Air Force’s rich history and vision guide its airmen in pursuing their missions with excellence and integrity and in becoming leaders, innovators and warriors;
NOW, THEREFORE, the mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Acworth hereby recognize Sept. 18, 2026, as the 79th anniversary of the United States Air Force and urge all citizens to remember and thank our veterans and active-duty military personnel who faithfully serve in this and other branches of the United States Armed Forces.
