The Georgia Supreme Court has set a Dec. 8 hearing for oral arguments on whether convicted double-killer Stacey Humphreys should be spared the death sentence.
Humphreys was sent to death row in the 2003 killings of two real estate agents at a construction site for new homes in Powder Springs.
He had been set to die Sep. 16 but a a stay of execution was granted after his attorneys argued that the Georgia Survivor Justice Law may apply to his case. The law allows certain individuals to petition for a reduced sentence after claims are presented that severe abuse helped fuel their actions.
Testimony was presented that Humphreys was frequently subject to physical, emotional and sexual abuse during the course of his childhood.
