At long last, it’s Election Day.

Voters in Cobb County are joining tens of thousands of others across Georgia at the polls today for the midterm elections.

Two statewide contests top the ballot: the race for governor and the race for a U.S. Senate seat held by an incumbent. Other statewide races include those for lieutenant governor, attorney general and secretary of state.

In Cobb County, voters will also decide several races for the Georgia House and Senate, along with two county commission races and three county school board races.

Advance voting set records in Cobb and elsewhere. Cobb County elections officials said voters cast 227,308 ballots during Georgia’s three-week advance voting period.

That unofficial total is up 45,922 ballots, or about 25%, from the 181,386 cast during advance voting in the November 2022 midterms. Cobb elections officials will certify the results next week.

On Election Day, voters must cast their ballots at their assigned polling places. They can use the state’s My Voter Page to find their polling place, view a sample ballot and check their registration.

Voters should bring an accepted photo ID, such as a Georgia driver’s license or state ID, a student ID from a Georgia public college or university, a U.S. passport, a military photo ID, a tribal photo ID or a valid photo ID issued by a state or federal government agency.

Elections officials say voters can leave their precinct cards at home. They must have registered by the deadline.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Anyone in line by 7 p.m. can stay in line and cast a ballot.
