Cobb County Public Library distributed the following announcement about a joint celebration with South Cobb Regional Library and the South Cobb Arts Alliance (SCAA):
Community members are invited to celebrate a major milestone in local arts and literacy as Cobb County Public Library and the South Cobb Arts Alliance (SCAA) host a joint anniversary celebration.
The special event honors the 20th Anniversary of the South Cobb Regional Library alongside the 10th Anniversary of “1000 Words,” a community-shared art project by SCAA artist Miles Davis. Supported by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), this landmark project was developed in close partnership between the artist, the SCAA, and the South Cobb Regional Library.
The public is invited to gather Saturday, Nov. 14, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., for an evening dedicated to celebrating local creativity, culture, and community history at the South Cobb Library, 805 Clay Road, Mableton 30126.
South Cobb Regional Library opened in May of 2006, replacing the South Cobb Library on Mableton Parkway, which had been in operation since 1967, with triple the space, public computers, meeting space, an expanded collection of books and library materials, and other additional resources. The library today is among the busiest in Cobb County and metro Atlanta.
Jo Lahmon, Cobb County Public Library’s South Region Manager, served as Branch Manager of the earlier library and the current location before becoming the lead manager for the region over five of the 15 Cobb library locations. Cobb library workers are committed profoundly to the community they serve, she said.
“For twenty years, the South Cobb Regional Branch has served as our ‘People’s University,’ acting as a vital bridge for social and economic mobility by connecting neighbors with the essential tools they need to succeed,” Lahmon said. “As we look to the future, the library remains deeply dedicated to providing a welcoming space that brings people together to build a stronger, more connected community.”
