Cobb County posted a news release on the county website today announcing the availability of emergency funds for homeowners affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The news release reads as follows:
Last month, the Cobb Board of Commissioners approved $4.8 million in emergency funding to help our homeowners, using a portion of the money allocated to the county in the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. The Cobb HomeSaver Program is now accepting applications at cobbhomesaver.org.
Cobb homeowners who have fallen behind in their mortgage payments due to a COVID-19 related involuntary financial hardship, medical hardship or death of a spouse/co-borrower will be eligible for up $4,800 of mortgage payment assistance, as well as optional homeownership counseling. They must have occupied the home prior to March 1, 2020, and currently occupy the home. They must also currently be delinquent on their mortgage payments.
Visit cobbhomesaver.org to review a complete list of eligibility criteria and to apply. Grant applications are being accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis and all applications will be reviewed and processed in the order they are received. Grant amounts awarded to homeowners may vary.
The Cobb HomeSaver Program is designed to mitigate home losses and provide counseling. Both independent and government studies have shown when engaged at the onset of a crisis, homeownership education and counseling reduce the odds of foreclosure by 42 percent. This program is being administered by HUD intermediary HomeFree-USA, a nationally-recognized nonprofit homeownership development and foreclosure prevention organization. HomeFree-USA staff will review each application and its supporting documents for eligibility and determine — based on eligibility requirements — recipients to receive grants and counseling. Mortgage payments will be paid directly to the lender on the borrower’s behalf.
