Two pedestrians struck by a train near West Atlanta Street in Cobb County

Officer Aaron Wilson of the Cobb County Police Department distributed the following public information release:

Uniform Officers from the Cobb County Police Department responded to an incident in which
two pedestrians were struck by a train near W Atlanta Street and Oak Ridge Drive on Monday,
August 12, 2024, at approximately 3:00 AM.


The preliminary investigation revealed that CSX dispatch notified Cobb 911 about the incident,
upon arrival first responders located two individuals at the scene.

One victim was found underneath the train cars, suffering from a severe lower leg fracture and
a head injury. An officer applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg until Cobb Fire and EMS
personnel arrived and took over, providing medical aid.

The second victim was located near the tracks, suffering from a possible hip injury, but was in stable condition and alert and communicating with first responders.


Both individuals were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for further treatment.

Location of the incident

West Atlanta Street and Oakridge Drive are in the Fair Oaks community of Cobb County, just east of Marietta and north of Smyrna.
