Cobb County launches informational web site about MSPLOST

Cobb County announced in a news release that an informational page has been created for the upcoming MSPLOST (Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax).

The MSPLOST will be on the ballot during the General Election on November 5, 2024.

According to the news release:

The website, www.cobbcounty.org/msplost, provides detailed information about the MSPLOST program, including the ballot language and the potential impacts on the community.

The MSPLOST program aims to address Cobb County’s growing population and economy by enhancing the public transportation system to be safer, more flexible, and more reliable. If approved by voters, the one-cent sales tax will provide dedicated funding for operational improvements and service expansion.

The news release lists the following objectives of the MSPLOST:

  • Community-Tailored Transit: Supports Cobb’s growing population and economy by offering safe, flexible, and reliable mobility options.
  • Expanding Opportunities: Enhances mobility and access to jobs and critical destinations throughout Cobb County.
  • Inclusive Access: Increases access for vulnerable and transit-dependent communities that are currently underserved.
  • Economic Vitality: Ensures that transit investments sustain and support Cobb’s current and future economy.
  • Countywide Service Enhancements: Improves service options, making transit faster, safer, and more reliable, connecting more people to more destinations.
  • Planned Investment: A sustainable 30-year investment plan aligned with approved comprehensive planning efforts.

Cobb County staff will also host informational sessions, “attend community events, and engage in outreach efforts leading up to Election Day.”
