[The Cobb County Courier has a policy of withholding or redacting the name of suspects unless and until the person is convicted in a court of law or enters a plea of guilty. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty, and the internet has no effective way of removing reports of arrest if the person is exonerated. We do make exceptions in high-profile cases or charges against public officials where exoneration is likely to be as widely publicized as the initial arrest]

A 21-year-old Atlanta man was arrested in connection with the death of 21-year-old De’shaune Hall of Marietta.

A public information release from Officer Chuck McPhilamy of the Marietta Police Department described the initial incident as follows:

Friday night, September 13, 2024, at approximately 10:15 PM, Marietta officers were dispatched to reports of a person shot outside building 25 at 2605 Bentley Road.  Hearing the dispatch and being in the area, Cobb County Police Department (CCPD) officers also responded.  When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as twenty-one-year-old De’shaune Hall of Marietta, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.  Officers and medical first responders attempted to render aid, but Hall did not survive the attack.  Detectives were called to the scene while officers began to collect evidence and witness statements.

The public information release stated that “Thanks to the cooperation of witnesses, Marietta officers and detectives quickly identified the suspect …”

Witnesses also provided an address for the suspect, which was in the jurisdiction of the Cobb County Police Department.

Cobb police officers went to the address and, after a brief foot chase, arrested the suspect.

The man was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where he is held without bond.
