Matt Griffin was appointed Kennesaw State University’s interim athletics director to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Vaughn Williams. Williams left to accept a position as senior associate athletic director for administration at Boston College.
Griffin was a graduate of Southern Polytechnic State University, which later merged with KSU. He played baseball at SPSU and was hired by their athletics department after graduation, serving as SPSU’s athletics director. He was KSU’s assistant athletics director for internal operations after the merger of the two universities and became the director of trustee relations and development in 2015.
A national search is underway for a replacement for Williams.
According to a press release from KSU, Griffin said, “I am grateful to serve as the interim director of athletics at Kennesaw State University. I want to thank President Olens for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with our coaches, staff and student-athletes.”
Olens said, “We are fortunate to have someone with Matt’s experience who can step into the interim role and provide solid leadership while we search for Kennesaw State’s new director of athletics.”
Griffin lives in Kennesaw with his wife, Leslie, a civil engineer, and their son and daughter. He was originally from Pennsylvania and grew up in Toccoa, Georgia.
