Democrat Mary Frances Williams wins the recount

The recount is complete for  Georgia House District 37, and Democratic challenger Mary Frances Williams has officially unseated Republican incumbent Sam Teasley. The Marietta-area district has been represented by Teasley since he took office in 2011.

Here are the counts from the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration:

Mary Frances Williams: 11928 for 50.34 percent of the vote.

Sam Teasley:                  11754 for 49.61 percent.

Teasley requested the recount due to the closeness of the race.

The following statement was issued by Cobb County Board of Elections and Registrations Director Janine Eveler when the recount was scheduled:

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 21-2-495(c), a recount for the Georgia House District 37 race has been requested by Sam Teasley and will be conducted on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Each candidate may be present in person or by representative at such recount.  The recount will be conducted at the Elections and Registration Office located at 736 Whitlock Ave., Marietta, GA 30064. 

Teasley was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2010, and has won every election until now.
