The City of Smyrna is going to cover the cost of voluntary COVID-19 testing for its city employees on July 28, July 29 and July 30.

“I am so proud of our staff for providing excellent service to Smyrna citizens during these tough times. I want to make sure that they know how committed we are to keeping them safe. Providing free COVID tests is another way to make sure they are protected,” said Mayor Derek Norton in the news release posted on the city website announcing the testing.

The news release describes the test procedure as follows:

The tests are self-administered with guidance through each test offered by Smyrna Fire Department paramedics with oversight provided by the City of Smyrna Human Resources Department and by prescribing physician, Dr. Lance Walker, providing results. The process is, and results are, confidential, managed through the City of Smyrna Human Resources Department and the prescribing/oversight physician. The City of Smyrna has 489 active full-time, part-time and seasonal/temporary employees.
