The public information release reads as follows:
On Sunday evening August 16th at approximately 7:20 PM a serious accident occurred in the intersection of North Marietta Parkway and Cobb Parkway North. Twenty-Eight-year-old [Driver 1] of Marietta was driving his 2000 Toyota 4Runner westbound on North Marietta Parkway approaching the intersection of Cobb Parkway North. Fifty-Six-year-old Rhena McCormick of Marietta was driving her 2016 Toyota Camry northbound on Cobb Park North, approaching the intersection of North Marietta Parkway. Preliminary indications are that [Driver 1] failed to stop for a red light, causing the two vehicles to collide in the intersection. The force of the crash caused the 4Runner to overturn and [Driver 1], who was unrestrained, to be ejected from his vehicle. Both drivers were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and charges, while anticipated, have not yet be filed. Anyone who witnessed this accident is urged to contact Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Investigator St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
