According to a press release from Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group, Georgia prices at the pump have changed little over the past week, showing only a one-cent rise.

“A  modest increase at the pump for Georgia motorists this week,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The good news is that gas continues to be fairly cheap. Georgians can fill-up for $2/gallon or less at gas stations across the state.”

Georgia gas prices  are now an average of $1.98 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. The state average as of this morning is 1 cent more than a week ago, 3 cents less than this time last month, and 50 cents cheaper than this time last year, according to the press release.

National trends

AAA had this to say about national trends in gasoline and oil prices:

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has held steady at $2.17.  In the new weekly report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand increased slightly from 8.6 million barrels a day to 8.8 million barrels a day. However, last week’s estimated rate is 1 million barrels a day lower than last year’s rate in early August. Lower demand has helped to keep pump prices stable, as total domestic gasoline stocks are also holding steady at 247.1 million barrels. If demand remains low amid consistent stock levels, motorists will likely see stable pump prices in the weeks ahead.

How does AAA determine gas prices?

AAA explains it’s methodology for collecting data on gasoline prices at the pump as follows:

AAA updates fuel price averages daily at www.GasPrices.AAA.com. Every day up to 130,000 stations are surveyed based on credit card swipes and direct feeds in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and Wright Express for unmatched statistical reliability. All average retail prices in this report are for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline.
