Cobb County announced that Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid, along with District 2 Commissioner Erick Allen, and District 4 Commissioner Monique Sheffield, sent a letter to Senators Warnock and Ossoff, and Representatives Loudermilk and McBath, addressing concerns over federal immigration enforcement tactics in Cobb County.
All three county elected officials who signed the letter were Democrats.
The letter comes on the heels of two people, U.S. citizens and Renee Good and Alex Pretti, being killed by ICE and border patrol agents during the ongoing occupation of Minneapolis by heavily militarized and masked immigration agents.
Minneapolis and Minnesota officials have been highly critical of the presence and behavior of federal agents in the city.
According to the Cobb County news release about the letter from the chairwoman and commissioners:
While acknowledging the role of federal enforcement, the letter highlights recent reports of violence and lethal force that have raised significant public safety and constitutional concerns. The Commissioners are calling for federal support to ensure that all federal law enforcement activities are conducted with the highest levels of professionalism and accountability.
To protect our residents and maintain community trust, they are urging our representatives to support impartial investigations, enhanced training, and clear officer identification.
These Commissioners remain committed to ensuring that every resident of Cobb County feels safe and that all law enforcement — at every level of government, operates with respect for human dignity and all constitutional rights.

I’m getting tired of my county commissioners putting their nose into business that is way above their pay grade! I’m wondering why they don’t believe in the law and don’t know how to abide by it! This Chairman has run amuck and is trying to make the law of our country not be enforced! She has become a political pawn and thinks she is more than she is! Acting like a political dictator for the citizens of this county!
Actually, it is their business because ICE’s rogue and unlawful activities put us all at risk, harms our public safety, and destroys all of the trust that local law enforcement agencies have built over the years with the entire community, including immigrants. The fact is that ICE, DHS, and this president and his administration have zero respect for the rule of law and are breaking it routinely in their mass deportation and other draconian initiatives. The overwhelming majority of the migrants they are here legally applying for asylum as refugees so this government needs to leave them alone and let due process and the rule of law prevail.
Thank you to the Commissioners and Chairwoman for doing this!
