BINGOcize winds down school year at South Cobb Regional Library

A set of bingo cards

By Kelly Johnson

Alongside America’s 250th anniversary, South Cobb Regional Library’s jubilee of community, health and fun winds down the school year with BINGOcize.

A game of mental stimulation, bingo is almost twice as old as America, originating in 1530s Italy. Having spread across Europe and found its way to the US, the form which bingo is played today was standardized in the 1930s. It has become an accepted, family-friendly type of lottery, either in its purest form or when integrated into an event, such as with the library’s BINGOcize program.

BINGOcize was created to pair the mental fun of the game with the practice of low-impact exercise and health education. The event is geared to help prevent falls or reduce the impact of falls. While intended for people 60+ years of age, it is open to adults 18+ years old.

BINGOcize occurs at South Cobb Regional Library weekly, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, until May 20th, the last day of school. This would be an ideal event for those grandparents who are planning an active summer with the grandkids. However, with a limit of 20 people, registration is required; one may sign up here.

Other events scheduled at South Cobb Regional Library include:

  • Adult Art Night, Wednesday, May 6th at 5:00 PM
  • Stop the Bull: Bullying Prevention for Teens, Saturday, May 9th at 11:00 AM
  • The Last Word Book Discussion, Thursday, May 14th at 4:30 PM

(The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong)

  • Summer Reading Kickoff, Saturday, May 30th at 4:00 PM

Please note that South Cobb Regional Library shall close Monday, May 25th, for Memorial Day.
