Cobb County Board of Commissioners this week signaled their approval of a proposed student housing development in the Kennesaw State University area.
A divided commission voted 3-2 to place the project on the commission consent agenda, and also voted in favor of related rezoning.
The plan, as outlined in the commission agenda packet calls for development of a 6.64 acre property on the west side of Chastain Center Blvd and south of Chastain Road.
The developer plans to combine two existing parcels into a single lot and replace current office buildings with a five-story structure for student housing, with a total of 588 beds. The development is also planned to contain 485 parking spaces and various amenities for students.The move to the consent agenda was opposed by commissioners Keli Gambrill and JoAnn Birrell. Birrell cited concerns over traffic as a reason for turning thumbs down on the plan.
