The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office says a 64-year-old jail detainee died this week after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Officials say Robert Hardy was found in cardiac arrest by sheriff’s deputies on July 25. He was rushed to Kennestone hospital and put on a ventilator. Cobb officials say he didn’t have a viable path to recovery and his family decided that his care should be ended.

Hardy was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on June 11 on charges of first-degree arson, driving over a fire hose, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
