A new execution date has been set for Stacey Humphreys, who was convicted of murder in the killings of two real estate agents in West Cobb in the early 2000s.
The Georgia Department of Corrections said in a news release that Cobb County Superior Court ordered the department to carry out the execution between Sept. 16 and Sept. 23. Corrections Commissioner Tyrone Oliver then scheduled the execution for 7 p.m. Sept. 16.
The execution will take place at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
A previous execution date of Dec. 17 was postponed after Humphreys and his attorneys mounted a new legal challenge. That challenge has since been rejected.
Humphreys was convicted of malice murder in the November 2003 deaths of Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown and was sentenced to death. The women were working in a construction trailer and model home at a new subdivision in West Cobb when Humphreys entered and confronted them.
