Georgia gas prices continued to climb this week, reaching an average of $3.81 per gallon for regular gasoline as ongoing conflict in the Middle East puts pressure on global oil markets.
The statewide average is up 2 cents from $3.79 a week ago, according to AAA. Georgia gas prices remain 2 cents below the $3.83 average recorded a month ago but are 92 cents higher than the $2.89 average a year ago.
At the current average, filling a 15-gallon tank with regular gasoline costs about $57.15.
“As uncertainty in global energy markets continues, drivers can expect fuel prices to remain sensitive to developments overseas,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “To help offset higher fuel costs, drivers can save money by combining errands into one trip, avoiding aggressive driving, and using the AAA Mobile App to find the lowest gas prices in their area.”
What about Cobb County prices?
As of this morning, the Cobb County average for a gallon of regular unleaded is about $3.83, two cents more than the statewide average.
National gas prices climb above $4 a gallon
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline rose 3 cents over the past week to $4.09 per gallon. Despite softer seasonal demand, crude oil prices above $80 per barrel and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz are keeping upward pressure on prices at the pump.
At current levels, August is on track to become the most expensive August on record for U.S. motorists.
The national average stood at $4.06 a week ago and $4.09 a month ago. A year ago, drivers nationally were paying an average of $3.14 per gallon. The record national average is $5.01, set June 14, 2022.
Atlanta gas prices average $3.83
In metro Atlanta, regular gasoline is averaging $3.83 per gallon.
Savannah has the highest average among Georgia metro markets at $3.88 per gallon, followed by Hinesville-Fort Stewart at $3.87 and Macon at $3.86.
The state’s least expensive metro markets are Augusta-Aiken at $3.69, Catoosa-Dade-Walker at $3.71 and Albany at $3.72.
Georgia’s record-high average for regular gasoline is $4.49 per gallon, set June 15, 2022.

EV charging rates were hovering around 42 cents per kilowatt hour at commercial DC fast charging stations, both nationally and in Georgia.
Home charging is much cheaper, particularly during overnight off-peak hours. Check your local utility provider for rates.
