On Tuesday, August 4th, beginning at 9:30 AM, North Cobb Regional Library will host the American Association of Retired Persons and its AARP Smart Driver Course.
While the Smart Driver course is geared toward seniors (adults age 60+) who have perhaps driven for decades, it is also open to adults 18+, particularly any who may have graduated primary school this summer, in June, and have never driven a vehicle before; or in the case of teens learning to drive while in high school, participants as young as 16 may also register here. AARP’s course will highlight The New Rules of Safe Driving, which will be of general benefit to all drivers.
The course costs $20 (for AARP members) or $25 (for AARP non-members), and the primary benefit of its completion is saving on car insurance.
Given the length of the course, about seven hours, there will be a thirty-minute lunch break. So, in addition to bringing a valid driver’s license, your AARP membership card (if applicable), a check or cash for course payment, and a pen, it will also be important to bring lunch, with a beverage. Non-acholic, of course. (And even though the nearest eateries are within five miles of the library, it may be prudent to save the car gas.)
The AARP Smart Driver Course will be held in the library’s large meeting\event room, which has an after-hours entrance. With the course beginning at 9:30, the library will open at 10:00 AM. AARP should be on site, at the outside door facing Old 41 Hwy NW, which leads directly into the meeting room. (Parking in front of the library and walking around its western or left side to the street side might be required of attendees.)
(AARP will also hold its Smart Driver course at the Charles D. Switzer Library on Wednesday, August 12th at 10 AM.)
With that, summer in August is a fine time to Drive.
