[The Cobb County Courier has a policy of withholding or redacting the name of suspects unless and until the person is convicted in a court of law or enters a plea of guilty. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty, and the internet has no effective way of removing reports of arrest if the person is exonerated. We do make exceptions in high-profile cases or charges against public officials where exoneration is likely to be as widely publicized as the initial arrest]

Cobb Police says one person died and another was injured in a Tuesday evening wreck on Sandtown Road south of Booth Road.

Authorities say a 22-year-old Marietta man was headed north on Sandtown Road in a 2007 Ford F-150  when he drifted into the southbound lanes and collided with a  2009 Honda Odyssey driven by 37-year-old Kerby Pierre of Atlanta. Pierre tried to avoid a collision by swerving  but the right front of the Ford slammed into the right front of the Honda.

A passenger in Pierre’s car, 41-year-old Keena Pierre, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner. A second passenger, Katie Stephens, 82, of Marietta, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Kerby Pierre and the 22-year-old driver of the F-150 were not injured. The F-150 driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, felony vehicular homicide and other charges. He’s being held without bond at the Cobb County jail.

Anyone with information on the collision’s being asked to call Cobb ‘s police traffic enforcement unit at 770-499-3987.
