Powder Springs seeks public input on railroad crossing study through Aug. 25

Drawing of a railroad crossing

Powder Springs residents and businesses have until Tuesday, Aug. 25, to weigh in on a proposal that could reshape three railroad crossings along the Powder Springs-Dallas Road corridor.

The city recently hosted its second public information open house for the Powder Springs-Dallas Road Corridor Railroad Crossing Study, drawing about 100 residents and community members to review a refined preferred alternative and discuss the proposal with the project team.

The study is examining potential changes to the Angham Road, Finch Road and Huddleston Drive at-grade railroad crossings along the Norfolk Southern rail line through Powder Springs. The city has been considering whether the crossings should be closed or consolidated as part of an effort to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians while supporting more efficient freight rail movement.

During the latest open house, the project team outlined the study’s purpose and safety goals and demonstrated traffic analysis used to evaluate how potential changes could affect travel times and access to downtown Powder Springs.

Attendees also viewed a video rendering of the preferred alternative designed to show how the proposed improvements could look and function. Residents were invited to ask questions, raise concerns and provide feedback.

The refined concept was developed following community feedback gathered at a March 31 open house and through the project’s first public survey.

Residents, businesses and other stakeholders who did not attend the latest meeting, as well as those who have additional comments after reviewing the updated proposal, can submit feedback through Aug. 25.

The city said comments received during the public input period will help inform the final Concept Report for the feasibility study and will be considered as the project team completes its evaluation.
