Cobb & Douglas Public Health distributed the following public information release about the availability of free mosquito larvacides to help control the spread of West Nile Virus:
Distribution: Friday, Sept. 25, through Oct. 30, 2026, while supplies last
The Georgia Department of Public Health has reported increasing West Nile virus (WNV) activity in Georgia this year, including in the Cobb and Douglas health district. Mosquito season typically continues through October. Larvicides help control mosquitoes before they become biting adults.
Cobb & Douglas Public Health is providing free mosquito larvicide tablets (Mosquito BTI Dunks) to help homeowners reduce mosquito breeding around their homes and decrease the number of mosquitoes that can spread mosquito-borne illnesses, including WNV.
Homeowners are still encouraged to “TIP ‘n TOSS” water from outdoor containers such as birdbaths, tires, planters and pet bowls each week. Larvicide tablets are recommended only for standing water that cannot be easily drained or eliminated.
How to get free larvicide tablets
From Friday, Sept. 25, through Oct. 30, residents of Cobb and Douglas counties can receive one pack of six tablets per household, while supplies last. Residents can pick them up at these locations:
- Marietta Public Health Center, Building A — front reception desk
- Acworth-Kennesaw Public Health Center — front desk
- Smyrna Public Health Center — front desk
- South Cobb Public Health Center — front desk
- Douglas Public Health Center — front desk, beginning the week of Sept. 28, 2026
People who do not have a home in Cobb or Douglas County are not eligible for the free tablets. They can check with their county health department or a local home improvement store for similar supplies.
Do larvicide tablets eliminate mosquitoes?
No. Larviciding is one tool in mosquito control.
