Marietta police released details of a Sept. 4 crash that left a 17-year-old riding an electric scooter dead.
Police said a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling south on Cobb Parkway stopped and waited to turn right onto Allgood Road. Meanwhile, the scooter operated by Daniel Jimenez Gutierrez weaved through stopped traffic. He then attempted to pass the tractor-trailer on the right shoulder.
When the light changed, the truck began turning right onto Allgood Road. Gutierrez struck the side of the tractor-trailer, was knocked off the scooter and ended up beneath its wheels.
Police said Gutierrez was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
