At the Thursday, October 1 meeting of the Acworth Board of Aldermen, the board recognized the life-saving actions of Acworth police officers LeFave Dye who rendered aid to a woman with multiple stab wounds at a Chick-fil-A on Highway 92.
Lt. Jeanette Vetter was asked to speak about the incident and the fast actions of the two officers, and delivered the following statement:
On August 20th, 2026, Officer Dye and Officer LeFave stopped at the Chick-fil-A located at 1130 Highway 92 for a bite to eat. Officer Dye was on duty, assigned to light duty and working in plain clothes. Officer LeFave just left court and was in full uniform.
As they stood in line to order, they heard a female’s voice behind them asking for help. They both turned around and noticed a woman covered in blood. She had multiple stab wounds to her arms, head and back.
Without hesitation, both officers immediately sprang into action and began rendering lifesaving medical aid to the woman. Officer Dye began controlling the excessive bleeding by applying pressure. Officer LeFave applied a tourniquet on the woman’s right arm and requested responding units to bring another tourniquet so they could apply it to the other arm to stop the bleeding.
They discovered the woman got into an argument with her daughter and her daughter stabbed her numerous times in the parking lot. The suspect left in a vehicle with two young children.
The officers continued to administer emergency care to the woman as they relayed information to responding units. The woman was transported to hospital for emergency treatment and a short time later the suspect was stopped and taken into custody.
Through their decisive actions, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty, Officer Dye and Officer LeFave prevented the victim from bleeding to death.
Their ability to remain composed under extreme pressure provided lifesaving medical care and obtained critical investigative information, not only saved the human life, but also facilitated the capture of the dangerous offender and ensure the safety of the two small children. Their actions reflect the highest traditions of law enforcement service and bring great credit upon themselves into the Acworth Police Department.
