Dear Editor

I pledge allegiance…to the Flag…and to the Republic…one Nation…with Liberty and Justice for All.

I view politics as deciding how we want to live together.

There are about 30 days until Election Day and even less for early voting and mail in voting. Every citizen has the opportunity and responsibility to use their vote as their voice, to decide whether our Republic continues as a democracy or continues as an autocracy.

I was born 83 years ago, during World War II and grew up with our Flag victorious. In elementary grade school I recited the pledge of allegiance every school day and became a member of the Safety Patrol, where we daily raised and lowered the Flag and learned how to respect and care for it. Years later, as a member of the Army Medical Service Corp, I renewed my pledge and commitment to the Flag and to defend our Constitution.

My political views have been influenced by having lived in Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Georgia and by having worked in all the southeastern states.

My work has been devoted to the administration and delivery of healthcare, in both the not-for-profit, for-profit; and public and private sectors. I began just after the Medicare and Medicaid laws were enacted and implemented throughout the nation. I have experienced the growth and development of healthcare, from the private practice of medicine to the corporate practice of medicine; and the advancement of technology from x-rays to CTs, MRIs and PETs, to advanced genetics and precision medicine. I have also seen corruption in healthcare, not unlike the corruption in our government. I believe our healthcare is a mess and so is our government. While our healthcare is increasingly unaffordable and unaccessible, and our government agencies are being dismantled and our Republic is being torn asunder, it is high time for citizens to raise their voices and cast their votes to assure democracy will prevail and our democratic Republic will survive, with a government that is better for all.

Sometimes on Election days I have voted for Democrats, sometimes for Republicans, sometimes for Independents and sometimes have not voted.

As for me, this time I will again be raising my voice and casting my vote for Democrats all up and down the ballot, as a clear choice in favor of the Constitution and the rule of law, for better democratic government for everyone.

Election Day is coming. See you at the polls!
