Students and staff at a Marietta elementary school are mourning the death of a second grader killed in a traffic accident earlier this week.

Police and family members say Ariella Nur was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at Macland Road and Barrett Parkway. She was a passenger in a car driven by her father, 39-year-old James Nur. Police say he started a left turn and collided with a Chevrolet driven by a 25-year-old Powder Springs man. That driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Nur wasn’t hurt.

The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

The principal at A.L. Burruss Elementary, which Ariella attended, said that counselors and extra support staff have been on hand to help teachers, support staff and students work through what happened.

And principal Dr. Jillian Johnson said any parents needing help can also reach out directly to her.
