North Cobb library November events feature autumn wreaths

An evergreen wreath

TWEENS\TEENS TO WIND HOLIDAY AT NORTH COBB REGIONAL LIBRARY

With a break for Thanksgiving set at the end of November, North Cobb Regional Library offers children eleven to fifteen years of age a chance to decorate for the holiday with Middle Makers: Autumn Wreaths.

The etymology of wreath bifurcates from several European eras, but the term today most represents the Middle English spelling (wrethe) while sustaining the Old English meaning, “that which is wound around”. Overtime, wreaths took on various symbolizations that would pass along as culture and history, leading to the autumn wreath representing the abundance, gratitude, and the transitional season of fall.

An autumn wreath may be woven with the vibrant colors of leaves from Maple or Oak trees, which symbolize a letting go with enduring strength while browning; mini-pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns attached to a wreath reflect protection and security of home; and pinecones and acorns represent potential and future prosperity. When hung on an entry door, the autumn wreath is a visual invitation to share in the spirit of Thanksgiving, and partake in a home’s warmth and comfort, including festive food.

North Cobb Regional Library hosts Middle Makers: Autumn Wreaths on Tuesday, November 10th at 5 PM.
