Detail of Cobb County Police Department STEP Unit vehicle in article about fatal accident on I-75

According to a public information release from Officer Sydney Melton of the Cobb County Police Department, the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a hit-and-run on Cunningham Road just south of Crosswinds Circle at about 6 p.m. yesterday.

The incident resulted in serious injuries to a teen pedestrian, who is in critical condition.

The public information release describes the incident as follows:

Per investigators, a pedestrian entered the southbound travel lane of Cunningham Road south of Crosswinds Circle. While in the roadway, investigators believe that a dark color four door sedan struck the pedestrian. The sedan then continued southbound on Cunningham Road.

Investigators observed video surveillance footage from a residence and a business that place the dark sedan in the area prior to and after the collision. Due to limited evidence at the scene and limited witness information, investigators do not have a make and model for the sedan at this time.

The pedestrian was identified as a 14-year-old juvenile. The juvenile was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition. The juvenile’s next of kin has been notified.

Cunningham Road is located between Marietta and Fair Oaks, and is near County Services Parkway in police Precinct 3.

This incident is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to phone the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.
