The City of Kennesaw announced on its website it is inviting residents, businesses and community organizations to get creative for the city’s seventh annual Scarecrows on Main, with registration open through Sept. 13.
This popular seasonal display will bring homemade scarecrows to Main Street from late September through early November, giving participants a chance to showcase their organization, business or personality in downtown Kennesaw.
Residents, families, neighborhoods, nonprofits, civic and faith-based organizations, businesses, schools, sports teams and athletic clubs are eligible to participate.
Registration costs $25 per scarecrow, with proceeds supporting the Kennesaw Downtown Development Authority’s downtown beautification projects and events. Participants can also register for both Scarecrows on Main and the city’s Holiday Extravaganza for a discounted combined fee of $40. Registration for the events separately costs $25 each.
The combined discount is available only during the Scarecrows on Main registration period.

Scarecrows on Main dates and requirements
Applications are due Sept. 13, and participants are scheduled to receive their assigned locations Sept. 17. Scarecrows must be installed between Sept. 24 and Sept. 28 and removed between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.
Each scarecrow must fit within a 4-foot-by-4-foot space assigned by the city. Participants are asked to account for sidewalks, trees, driver visibility and other conditions that could limit the height or depth available at individual locations.
Scarecrows must be freestanding with a stable, weighted base, which can be secured using sandbags, bricks, weights or similar materials. Displays cannot be attached to sign, light or utility poles or other existing structures, and stakes cannot be driven into the ground.
Displays must also be able to withstand outdoor weather, and participants are responsible for maintaining them throughout the event. The city may remove displays that are damaged, fall over, obstruct pedestrian or vehicle traffic, become unsafe or are considered unsightly.
Real pumpkins are prohibited, although artificial pumpkins are allowed. Any paint used must be waterproof. Signs must be attached to the scarecrow or a prop that is part of the display and cannot be larger than 18 inches by 24 inches.
All displays must be family-friendly and cannot contain material the city considers offensive or distasteful. The city also is not responsible for decorations or other items that are lost, damaged or removed during the event.
Participants must remove their scarecrows by the end of the day Nov. 4. The city said items remaining after the deadline will be removed and disposed of, and participants who fail to meet the deadline may be barred from future displays.
Completing registration constitutes agreement to the event’s rules and guidelines.
